Download NMHD 2008 Flyer Bulk Flyer Orders: Miss Print Printing Service (03) 9555 1265 Register your club's events using the NMHD Registration Form Purpose of the event The National Motoring Heritage Day is an initiative of the Australian Historic Motoring Federation (AHMF) to show the flag and demonstrate the strength of the motoring enthusiasts’ movement in Australia by having up to 200 000 vehicles from the 600 plus vehicle clubs affiliated with the AHMF through their state and territory bodies, on the road on the same day around Australia. The event can be as simple as encouraging club members to drive around for a couple of hours or as elaborate as councils and clubs wish to make it. These notes are to advise clubs of what the AHMF is doing to promote the day and what clubs can do to make the event a resounding success. The AHMF is arranging a national sponsor who will fund the cost of the design and printing of a poster. The sponsor will have a presence at selected locations around Australia at either the start and/or finish of the events. Official name of the event National Motoring Heritage Day – a salute to Australian motoring. Day: Sunday May 18 2008. Location: Australia wide Other sponsorships Councils and clubs are free to arrange their own sponsorship provided it does not conflict with the major sponsor. Things that councils and clubs should consider Book this date in your club's calendar. Details to be sorted our by your individual club's "events coordinator" aka "social secretary" etc. How the day is organised is left to councils and clubs, but the following elements are provided as guide: - Police and council permits (where required) should be applied for and relevant authorities informed well in advance of the proposed route, number of vehicles taking part, together with start and finish points of the event.
- Public liability insurance should be arranged
- Appoint a contact person to liaise with state and territory councils
- Invite local civic leaders – mayor, shire president, state and federal parliamentarians to officiate either by flagging away the vehicles at the start or welcoming at the finish.
- Keep local media informed of the event by providing articles about club members and their vehicles - youngest participant, oldest most unusual vehicle participating. AHMF will provide templates to assist councils and clubs place articles.
- Report regularly to your state /territory council to keep them informed of your activities.
- Build community support into your event - such as raising funds for a local charity or offering senior citizens or disadvantaged children rides in member’s vehicles
- Impress on drivers that all road rules must be obeyed.
